Dealing With the Itchies

I love the Potion but one thing that drives me a little crazy is the itchies, its great to know my hair is growing so I had to find something to soothe it.

Palmers Coconut Oil Spray
@:WalMart on the "Ethnic Hair" Aisle
Cost: Locally its 3.79 but prices do vary for different areas.

Application:
I spray around my edges and in the crown of my head which is where I get the itchy feeling the most.

Hth!

Hello Length, Meet Shrinkage

Hair Logs, Week 26

So I did what I set out to do and stretched my relaxer six months. Somewhere around month 3 this stretch turned into a journey into transitioning to natural hair. My regime thus far has been pretty simple, cowash every few days, deep condition with coconut or argan oil, wash once a week with Aphogee and dc, and protect daily with a wig. Last month I added the GHE into my regimen and it seems as if I've nursed my hair back to reasonable health though I've still got a ways to go, this part of my journey is focused on getting and retaining length.

With new growth, especially with extra curly mine it was hard to tell if I actually gained any length the last few months and of course I did a big trim in January so of course that didn't help much.

My last length check in January:

And my current length:

Which also brings me to the title of my blog, good grief I new natural hair had a bit of shrinkage but I only flat ironed half of my hair just to see if it made that big of a difference and it definitely does.

I think I'm grazing SL, and I just started using the Potion last week and have felt good results from it so far and hope that with the summer being the fastest time for growth plan to reach it when I flat iron in August.

Food Amnesia/Food Logging for Success

The last week I focused on making better changes to start my loss again and happily the scale has moved in the right direction for the first time in a long while.
5.8.2011
Weigh In: 337.2! Lost 8lbs last week, not a bad way to get myself back on track.

I only made it to the gym once, but did walking at home on other days. My goal this week is at least 3 days of cardio whether thats gym or Zumba, and at least 2 days of strength.

The biggest thing I did was to break out my food journal, a few months back I bought a FitBook.I only used it for a few days but its a 12 week journal that tracks food intake and exercise. It seems that having to write down what I'm having and doing honestly has helped me be accountable. Considering with shipping and handling I paid about $40 for it, I decided it was definitely time for me to stop letting it collect dust:

.

My current goal is to complete the journal and workout 5 days a week at a minimum, with my diet, I'm sticking to 1200 cals a day focusing on lean protein and veggies.

No BC w/o Weight Loss

I'm at week 25 of my transition to natural hair and debating when I will do my big chop. I already decided that I wanted as much healthy growth as possible before breaking out the scissors, but I realized that one of the main things holding me back is my weight.

I think that all natural hair is beautiful I just know personally at my current size, I don't have the healthiest body and a TWA just won't look good on me. Not necessarily because of the length but more of a confidence issue and the one thing I've learned about natural tresses is you have to go hard or go home. Natural hair is not for the weak or faint hearted and confidence to boldy rock it is a must.

I wanted to BC for my birthday August 27th, and since I'm already seeing promising results with the Potion(see last blog) I think its possible to get at least 2 more inches of new growth. In that time I'm sticking to my diet and exercise plan and aiming at 4 lbs a week, since its about 18 weeks, thats about 72lbs, though I'd be happy for 50.

Happy Growing and Losing Folks!

Also Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers!!

The Next 6 Months of Transitioning

My first 6 months of my transition to natural hair were all focused on the health of my hair, now that I've acheived that it time to focus on amping up my growth.

New regimen:

Once every two weeks:
Aphogee Shampoo and Balancing Moisturizer
Argan Oil DC
Air Dry

CoWash Days(Every other to every 3 days)

Apply Coconut Oil before work or in the morning and baggy.
Cowash with Argan Oil DC and PPO.
Apply Transition to Natural New Growth Creme.
Use Grapeseed and Argan Oil to seal.

Daily:
Apply Potion and massage.
Apply CO/PPO to scalp.
Saran wrap and tie for night.

Protective wig every day.

Pretty simple but my growth aides are on steroids :)
Next length check will be in August.
